All you sports card collectors, how much do you spend/make on buying/selling your cards?

I have been in and out of collecting for two decades, and was curious if all my time and effort are worth anything more than a hobbie. It seems like card stores are few and far between now, and ebay has seemed to take over. What are good ways to produce a maximum profit with what I have invested my time and money into, or is there any profit to be made?
